Birchbox Summer 2019

After a long Summer break, I decided to take out my laptop and start blogging again. At this point, I feel fully recharged and ready to take on whatever life decides to throw at me.

For 2019, the Birchbox team has yet again decided to go for a ‘combined’ Summer box. This means that instead of getting one box in July and one box in August, I received a bigger box for the two months combined. The ‘box’ also got transformed into a cute little pouch, perfect for Summer.

On top of that, instead of the usual 5 items per box, there was even a little extra added to spice up your Summer glam. That means we’ll be discussing not ten, but ELEVEN items in this Birchbox Summer review.

For that reason, I decided to split the review up into two posts. The first you’re reading right now, the second one will follow a few days after this one so make sure to keep an eye out for that.

So the first product we’ll be talking about today is the Birchbox Accessories – Comb. My personal feeling about getting an item from Birchbox Accessories is that it’s usually either a hit or miss. Not that the products aren’t good, that’s not at all what I’m saying. It’s just that most of the times it’s either a product I already have a similar variant of, or a product I don’t really use.

Impressions: For this time, it’s the former. I do use this type of comb, hence why I already owned one. To still make the most out of it I put this one in my shower to comb through my hair after rinsing out a hair mask to make sure all tangles have completely gone away.

As with similar types of combs, it does work. I mean, how could it not?

The second product I received is the Coco & Eve – Like a Virgin Hair Mask. Doesn’t it feel like you’ve seen this product literally everywhere? It does to me. I was very excited to see this sample pop up in my Birchbox to see if it is really worth the hype.

Impressions: I used this product in combination with the Birchbox Accessories comb I also received in the Summer box. The instructions for the mask indicate to use a generous amount of product, which definitely wasn’t a lie.

The sample contained 30ml of product and I do feel I needed more than half of that to fully cover all of my hair (which is medium-length). The product itself wasn’t as ‘white’ as I had expected it to be for some reason but it did smell A-MAZING! The gentle hints of coconut made my shower experience ever so delightful.

The mask itself did what it was supposed to do, which is provide some good hydration as well as restoring damaged hair and frizz. I don’t really have frizz but my hair was a lot dryer because of the hot weather we’ve had during Summer. After using this product my hair had a healthy shine (not greasy) to it and it felt extremely soft.

I do feel like this mask might be a little over-hyped because of all the social media and influencer coverage it got. I wouldn’t call it better than any other hair mask I normally use, but it is more expensive so I would think about that if you’re willing to buy.

The third product I’ll be discussing is the Laritzy – Lip Gloss in the colour ‘Curve’. So far I have always enjoyed products I received in my Birchboxes so I was excited to try this one out too.

Impressions: Usually I’m not the biggest fan of lip glosses since they remind me of those super sticky ones I used to wear when I was little. This one however has changed my mind about them completely.

First of all, the gloss is the perfect colour for me. It provides a ‘your lips but better’ shade without the extreme stickyness. Second of all, the lip gloss smells divine! It has a very sweet scent to it which makes application even nicer.

Something that might be another great benefit for some of you is that the product is completely vegan and cruelty-free so everyone can enjoy it. I’m a fan!

The fourth product is the Polaar – IceSource Moisturizing Gel with glacier water. If you’ve been following me for a while now, you’ll know how much of a fan I am of Polaar products and I’m hoping I’ll love this one too.

Impressions: The first thing I noticed is how I expected the product to be more of a watery gel but it actually was a white more creamy gel. As always, the scent got me convinced immediately and it felt like I didn’t had to wait and see if it actually worked to be buying it again, haha.

However, I did apply it and waited for the results. I must say I was pleasantly surprised to see how fast this mask absorbed into my skin. It only took a few minutes and my skin was ready to go and ready to apply makeup on.

For Summer, I do prefer this one over the other Polaar cream I have since this one is much more lightweight, probably because it’s a gel and not a cream.

The fifth product for today is the Human + Kind – Green Tea Vegan Lip Balm. Again, Human + Kind is one of those brands I love receiving in my Birchbox and I couldn’t wait to try this one out.

Impressions: Human + Kind products are made out of natural ingredients and are hypoallergenic. The green tea scent of this lip balm is very calming and makes the selfcare of applying it an instant treat.

The lip balm is very moisturising and exactly what I need during those hot Summer months. You really do not need a lot of this product and the moisture really lasts for a long amount of time.

The final item for this part 1 of the Birchbox Summer box is the little extra item that was added. It is a cute bracelet by Albertine.

Impressions: I always love getting an extra treat! Who doesn’t? Even though I do feel like this bracelet isn’t something I would usually go for, it went great with one of my golden necklaces I wore during those hot Summer months.

The bracelet is very simple and subtle and goes very nicely with almost every outfit. Even though I wasn’t completely convinced at first, I did get a lot of wear out if it.

That was all for this post, make sure to follow the blog to get a notification when I upload part 2!

I really hope you enjoyed. All the best,
